Dr Abasi Ene-Obong
Dr. Abasi Ene-Obong is a seasoned business leader and scientist with extensive experience in the US, UK, and African healthcare and biotech industries. He is the founder and CEO of Syndicate Bio, a health technology company building the world’s most diverse human health datasets and applying AI/ML to usher in a new era of human discoveries and inclusive care globally. Abasi also founded and served as the CEO of 54gene, Inc., a pioneering African genomics company. Within two years, he built a biobank of over 100,000 samples connected to clinical records—one of the largest ethically and informed-consent genomic resources of African samples globally.
Earlier in his career, Abasi worked as a management consultant for IQVIA and PwC, providing advisory services to US pharmaceutical companies on their global and domestic strategies. He also worked as a research scientist in the UK.
Dr. Abasi Ene-Obong holds a PhD in Cancer Biology from the University of London and an MSc in Human Molecular Genetics from Imperial College London. His research has been published in some of the world’s leading scientific journals, including Gastroenterology, Cell, Nature, and Cancer Discovery. He was invited by Nature Biotechnology, alongside Bill Gates, Jennifer Doudna, and others, to co-author the “Voices of Biotech” issue.
Dr. Abasi has been featured in leading publications such as The Financial Times, Wired, and Time. He has received numerous awards, including Endpoints 20 under 40 and Fortune magazine’s 40 under 40. He also serves on multiple boards and committees, including the American College of Medical Genetics’ International Outreach and Engagement Committee and the Bloomberg New Economy International Cancer Coalition.
