Calvin Marambo

Calvin Marambo is a Tanzanian bioengineer, drug delivery scientist, and business strategist whose contributions in biotech span the unique intersection of groundbreaking biomedical science and business. A three-time graduate of Harvard University with degrees in Bioengineering, a Master of Science in Biotechnology, and an MBA from Harvard Business School, Calvin is passionate about advancing human health through innovation. He has established a track record of developing innovative medicines for rare genetic diseases, respiratory infectious diseases, neurological diseases, and oncology. Calvin is an inventor of multiple patents on lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) addressing critical gaps in mRNA therapeutic delivery and in vivo gene editing.

Calvin is currently helping build Moderna's Rare Diseases Therapeutics franchise to bring important mRNA medicines to patients with inborn errors of metabolism. Prior to joining Moderna in his current role, Calvin was a health and life sciences investment fellow at Gates Ventures, the private investment office of Mr. Bill Gates, where he steered investments in Alzheimer's disease diagnostics. He was also a formulation discovery scientist at Moderna during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, developing lipid nanoparticles to support mRNA vaccine delivery.
