Albert Zeufack
Dr. Albert G. Zeufack, a Cameroonian national, brings over 30 years of experience in Economics and Finance, including six years as the World Bank Chief Economist for Africa and four years as the Chief Economist and Director of Research and Strategy for Khazanah Nasional Berhad, a Malaysian Sovereign Wealth Fund. Since July 2022, he has served as the World Bank’s Director of Operations for Angola, Burundi, DR Congo, and São Tomé & Príncipe, managing a $14 billion portfolio and 250 staff in six field offices to deliver sustainable development solutions. He is the architect behind the World Bank’s re-engagement in the Grand Inga Dam project, poised to supply clean energy to more than five African countries—a prerequisite to industrialization and job creation.
Dr. Zeufack is the founder of the Chief Economist of Government Network (CEoG), a peer-to-peer learning platform for Chief Economic Advisors to Heads of Executive in 42 African countries.
Dr. Zeufack joined the World Bank in 1997 as a Young Professional and began his career as a research economist in the Macroeconomics Division of the Research Department (DECRG). Since then, he has held several positions in Africa, East Asia and Pacific, and Europe and Central Asia regions. Prior to his appointment as World Bank Chief Economist for Africa in May 2016, he was Practice Manager in the Macroeconomics and Fiscal Management Global Practice and leader of the World Bank-wide Community of Practice for the Management of Natural Resources Rents.
Dr. Zeufack earned his Ph.D. in Economics from CERDI, the University of Clermont-Ferrand (France), where he taught before joining the World Bank. He also holds a master’s degree in Economic Analysis and Policy from the University of Yaoundé (Cameroon) and has completed Executive Education at Harvard University and Stanford University.
A renowned public speaker, Dr. Zeufack is perfectly bilingual (English and French) and has authored more than 50 scientific publications and books. He is a seasoned Board Chair for several non-profit organizations and serves as a member of the Advisory Board of the Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI), the Technical Advisory Committee of the Natural Resource Charter at Oxford University, the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Network, and as a Member Emeritus of the Board of the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC).
